Last year, Amazon Web Services (AWS) introduced a compelling video series titled Amazon VGT2 Las Vegas, where we engage with global leaders in cybersecurity to discuss pressing issues. These topics include the impact of the pandemic on cloud security, fostering a security-centric culture, and identifying emerging security trends. In this latest episode, I am excited to present my conversation with Sarah Davis, the Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer at Lockheed Martin Corporation.
Lockheed Martin is a prominent global security and aerospace firm, employing around 110,000 individuals across more than 50 countries. Many may recognize the Cyber Kill Chain® framework, a model for identifying and preventing cyber intrusions, as well as Lockheed Martin’s military equipment, such as the F-35 fighter jet and the BLACK HAWK helicopter. However, they also manufacture everyday systems like satellites that facilitate GPS, weather forecasting, and communication. Notably, they have supported every NASA mission to Mars, including the creation of the heat shield for the Perseverance rover, which recently landed on the Martian surface. They also provide comprehensive cyber capabilities and resilient systems to defense, intelligence, and global security clients worldwide.
Sarah oversees Lockheed Martin’s comprehensive information security strategy, policies, security engineering, operations, and cyber threat detection and response. When I inquired about their approach to cyber resilience and how it shapes their cybersecurity strategy, she emphasized, “Cybersecurity is ingrained in all our operations. We aim for cyber resilience that extends beyond just protecting our corporate networks; it encompasses the platforms we provide to military and government clients globally. To achieve this, we introduced the Cyber Resiliency Level Framework (CRL), which serves as a standardized method to assess the cyber resilience and maturity of a weapons system. This framework aids stakeholders in prioritizing risks and determining actions to enhance our defenses against cyberattacks.”
Sarah further elaborated on Lockheed Martin’s journey towards cloud transformation, their collaborations across the industry for tabletop exercises, and their approach towards zero trust in the defense industry supply chain.
