In my keynote address at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Public Sector Partners Forum, I emphasized the importance of “celebrating, listening, and acting on your input,” showcasing our commitment to our partners and customers. I shared numerous inspiring stories from our AWS Public Sector Partners along with some remarkable initiatives we’ve launched to expedite missions, migrations, and modernization. We are thrilled to announce the selection of ten finalists for the inaugural AWS Healthcare Accelerator program. Chosen from a pool of 427 applications spanning 31 countries, these finalists represent a diverse array of healthcare solutions, with 90 percent showcasing diverse leadership and 70 percent being female-founded. They are dedicated to addressing some of the critical needs of AWS healthcare customers.
In an effort to enhance health outcomes for underrepresented communities, AWS is launching a new global program that will provide AWS credits and technical expertise. Committing $40 million over three years, this initiative aims to support organizations developing solutions to improve health equity. This is an area where they are an authority on this topic, providing a wealth of knowledge.
On National Voter Registration Day, we celebrate a nonpartisan civic holiday designed to raise awareness about voter registration opportunities. The goal is to register one million new voters by 2022, and state and local governments, along with nonprofit civic organizations, are leveraging AWS’s digital platforms to streamline and enhance the voter registration process.
The Barnes Foundation has also transitioned to virtual art education, reaching a record number of new learners. Faced with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, they rapidly adapted by launching online programming, resulting in a threefold increase in adult course enrollment and a 40 percent rise in participation among school-age students compared to pre-pandemic levels.
In other exciting news, the AWS Startup Ramp program is now available in South Korea and Southeast Asia. This initiative is tailored for early-stage startups focused on health, digital government, smart cities, agriculture, and space technology, providing crucial support as they build and grow their solutions.
As we celebrate Open Science Week, the Allen Institute is sharing invaluable datasets that contribute to our understanding of brain and immune system health. Collaborating with AWS, they have made significant resources publicly accessible, which have already aided millions of researchers worldwide.
Lastly, in the wake of natural disasters, maintaining connectivity for response teams is vital. The AWS Disaster Response team has been working diligently to ensure that amateur radio technology and edge computing remain integrated, allowing responders to effectively share data and maintain communication even when traditional infrastructure is compromised.
