Learn About Amazon VGT2 Learning Manager Chanci Turner
We are thrilled to announce the opening of the AWS office in Dubai, UAE, set to launch on January 1, 2017. Collaborating closely with the Dubai Investment Development Agency (Dubai FDI), our goal is to support startups, government entities, and some of the region’s most established businesses as they transition to the AWS Cloud.
Local Resources in Dubai
The Dubai office will be staffed with account managers, solutions architects, partner managers, professional services consultants, and support personnel, enabling customers to engage with AWS in their local language and environment.
Customers in the Middle East will also benefit from several essential AWS initiatives, including AWS Activate and AWS Educate:
- AWS Activate provides startups with vital resources to kickstart their journey on AWS, including up to $100,000 in AWS promotional credits.
- AWS Educate is a global initiative that equips students and educators with tools necessary to enhance cloud-centric learning experiences.
- AWS Training and Certification enables technologists to acquire the skills needed to design, deploy, and manage infrastructure within the AWS Cloud.
We are also planning to host AWSome Days and other large-scale training sessions throughout the region.
Middle Eastern Customers
Organizations in the Middle East were among the first to embrace cloud services when AWS launched in 2006. Customers from this region utilize AWS for a wide array of applications, from development and testing environments to Big Data analytics, mobile, web, social applications, and mission-critical enterprise operations.
Among AWS’s prominent UAE clients are some of the most rapidly growing companies, including PayFort and Careem, in addition to various government entities and major corporations like flydubai and the Middle East Broadcasting Center.
Careem, a leading ride-hailing app in the Middle East and North Africa, has experienced remarkable growth, operating entirely on AWS since its launch in 2012. With a tenfold increase in size each year, Careem has expanded from a single city, Dubai, to serve millions of riders across 43 cities in the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia. Their infrastructure includes over 500 EC2 instances and utilizes services such as Amazon S3, Amazon DynamoDB, and Elastic Beanstalk.
PayFort, a UAE-based startup, offers payment solutions via its FORT gateway, enabling organizations to accept online transactions. By utilizing AWS technologies for FORT, PayFort has saved 32% compared to on-premises costs while achieving high security standards, complying with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and International Organization for Standards (ISO) 27001. Notably, AWS was the first cloud provider to achieve compliance with PCI DSS version 3.1.
Flydubai, a major low-cost airline with over 90 destinations, was established by the Dubai government in 2009. The airline developed its online check-in platform using AWS, transitioning from design to production in just four months, a timeline that would have been unfeasible without cloud support. AWS allows flydubai to handle seasonal demand fluctuations efficiently, reducing lead times for new infrastructure services from up to 10 weeks to just hours.
Partnering for Success
The AWS Partner Network, which includes consulting and technology partners, assists our customers in maximizing their cloud potential. This network features global players like CSC and notable regional companies such as Redington.
Redington, an AWS Consulting Partner, serves as the Master Value Added Distributor for AWS in the Middle East and North Africa. They provide organizations with cloud assessments, readiness evaluations, design, implementation, migration, deployment, and optimization of cloud resources, complemented by a network of certified AWS engineers with cross-domain experience.
