Important Update: Amazon S3 Default Encryption for New Objects

At Amazon, ensuring security is our utmost priority. Effective immediately, Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) will encrypt all newly created objects by default. This means S3 will automatically apply server-side encryption (SSE-S3) to each new object unless you choose an alternative encryption method. Since its initial launch in 2011, SSE-S3 has enhanced the security of data within S3.
