As I prepared to pen this update, I reflected on the initial announcement of AWS Direct Connect back in 2012. The inception of Direct Connect stemmed from requests made by our enterprise clients, who sought dedicated links to AWS Regions for enhanced privacy, improved performance, and reduced costs. Fast forward to today, and we’re thrilled to introduce the AWS Direct Connect Gateway, which allows for seamless inter-region access to Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs), streamlining the way organizations connect across AWS’s global infrastructure.
With Direct Connect, users can establish a dedicated network connection from their on-premises environments directly to AWS. This setup not only provides a more reliable network experience compared to conventional internet connections but also boosts throughput and has the potential to lower network expenses. Excitingly, we’ve already expanded our Direct Connect locations this year, enhancing connectivity options across North America and Europe.
