CNAME Wildcard Functionality Now Available for Amazon CloudFrontMore Info

Amazon CloudFront simplifies the delivery of both dynamic and static content to a worldwide audience. You can easily host your static files on Amazon S3 or dynamic content on Amazon EC2, create a CloudFront distribution, and then utilize the distribution’s domain name in your content’s URL path.

Moreover, CloudFront can be integrated with your existing domain names by linking one or more CNAMEs to the distribution. For instance, if you own domain.com and host images at images.domain.com and videos at video.domain.com, you can configure the distribution to handle requests for these subdomains by adding them to the distribution settings.

Today, we are pleased to announce the expansion of CloudFront’s CNAME support to include wildcard domain names. With this enhancement, you can now utilize a domain format like *.domain.com to route requests from all subdomains to the same distribution, eliminating the need to individually list them.

Additionally, you can take advantage of CloudFront’s Custom Behaviors feature to tailor the request handling for each subdomain as needed. This new functionality is available immediately, and you can start implementing it today. For more details, check out this blog post on using alternate domain names (CNAMEs) here.
