Amazon VGT2 Las Vegas: Reflections on the AWS Government Competency's Value for APN Partners and ClientsMore Info

In June 2016, we introduced the AWS Government Competency during the AWS Public Sector Summit, aiming to facilitate connections between customers and AWS Consulting and Technology Partners. These partners have demonstrated their technical expertise and success in managing government workloads. Our goal also includes helping forward-thinking APN Partners specializing in government sectors to enhance their recognition and expertise among potential clients.

As we mark the one-year anniversary of the AWS Government Competency, we reached out to several partners to share insights about their missions, their reasons for utilizing AWS to assist clients, their growth as APN Partners, and the experiences they’ve encountered since achieving the AWS Government Competency.

Who are AWS Government Competency Partners and how do they contribute to the public sector?

Our global AWS Government Competency Partner ecosystem is diverse and dedicated to serving various government levels. For instance, consider SecureTech, a leading Advanced Technology Partner that not only holds the AWS Government Competency but also the Security Competency. “SecureTech’s mission is to empower any organization to leverage technology seamlessly,” explains Maya Johnson, VP of Partnerships at SecureTech. “With our premier identity solution, we assist government entities in securely integrating new technologies while ensuring employee safety and engaging constituents through various platforms. Currently, we serve multiple government levels, including the Department of Health and Human Services and local councils in Canada and the UK.”

AWS Government Competency Partners aim to assist government agencies in meeting their unique needs and advancing their missions through cloud adoption.

“The Cloud Innovations mission is to transform how our government clients deliver and utilize IT services. We provide cloud solutions that are essential for critical government infrastructure,” states Liam Smith, EVP for Technology and Strategy at Cloud Innovations, a Premier Consulting Partner with multiple APN Competencies. “Our expertise in securing and monitoring cloud solutions compliant with FedRAMP Moderate and High standards has positioned us to cater to stringent compliance needs for agencies like the Department of Homeland Security and the Internal Revenue Service.”

The influence of these APN Partners is extensive, centered on enhancing services for government agencies dedicated to improving citizen welfare. “Our key government clients include the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and the Government of São Paulo,” remarks Sofia Torres, CEO of Tech Solutions, an Advanced Consulting Partner. “We have facilitated their transitions from traditional data centers to AWS cloud, providing ongoing managed infrastructure services.”

Being an APN Partner has enabled InsightData, an Advanced Technology Partner with competencies in Government and Big Data, to quickly deploy services globally. “All our clients are significant, and we’ve invested in addressing the distinct challenges faced by government entities,” notes Alex Reed, VP of Public Sector at InsightData. “The AWS Government Competency empowers us to support modernization efforts for government clients, allowing them to transition their workloads to the cloud securely. We take pride in assisting various federal departments and state agencies across the nation.”

Why become an APN Partner and leverage AWS?

For many AWS Government Competency Partners, the true value of AWS lies in the agility and innovation it fosters within their organizations and for their clients.

“We have partnered with AWS since our inception in 2011. We chose AWS for our solutions because it has consistently offered the best products in the market. This remains true today,” states Emma Clarke, Co-Founder & COO of CloudLogic, an Advanced Technology Partner holding the Security Competency.

“AWS allows us to be nimble, letting us focus on refining our solutions while they handle infrastructure. AWS’s commitment to innovation—like the introduction of Amazon EC2 Container Service (ECS) and AWS Lambda—enables us to enhance our services and better serve our clients,” adds Johnson from SecureTech.

The high standards set for APN Partners, coupled with the robust support from AWS globally, have been pivotal motivators for many Government Competency holders.

“As a Technology Partner, AWS distinguishes itself with its supportive APN team. Their collaborative approach has provided essential guidance as we continue to experience rapid growth,” explains Luke Brown, Director of Marketing at SimpleTech, an Advanced Technology Partner.

“Although AWS maintains high standards for APN Partners, they also consistently support those who meet these benchmarks. AWS’s assistance through the APN and Competency Program has been invaluable for CloudLogic’s growth. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the benefits of being an APN Partner,” emphasizes Clarke.

As AWS expands its local presence, APN Partners are uncovering further advantages. “We became an APN Partner in late 2012 while AWS was still establishing its footing in Argentina. Partnering with the industry leader made strategic sense, and this decision has yielded tremendous benefits as AWS has developed a strong local team,” notes Torres from Tech Solutions.

What are the benefits of obtaining the AWS Government Competency?

As these APN Partners have expanded their businesses on AWS, numerous reasons have driven them to pursue the AWS Government Competency. Recurring themes include differentiation, credibility, and the confidence built with both clients and AWS.

“The Government Competency from AWS has opened doors for us within organizations that may have otherwise taken longer to engage. We wear the Government Competency badge with pride, as it reflects our commitment to excellence and the work we’ll continue to do to uphold that standard,” states Rachel Adams, CEO and co-founder of GovTech Services, an Advanced Consulting Partner.
