In 2021, we broadened the competency to include validated modernization software partners, acknowledging the critical role of modernization in realizing cloud benefits. With clearly defined migration and modernization service categories, the AWS Migration and Modernization Competency enables partners to distinguish their expertise, facilitating easier discovery for customers seeking validated software and services solutions throughout their cloud journey—from initial migration to ongoing modernization. Furthermore, we have updated technical requirements to simplify the process of gathering and submitting case study materials for partners.

Migration Services
AWS Partners in this category possess extensive knowledge of rehosting, relocating, or like-to-like replatform migration patterns tailored to swiftly transition multiple systems to AWS. These patterns are designed for rapid or large-scale data center exits with minimal architectural adjustments, allowing for quicker realization of cloud advantages.
New! Modernization Services
These AWS Partners exhibit profound expertise in replatforming or refactoring (rearchitecting) patterns, which involve substantial modifications to the application architecture or underlying platform. Modernization entails transforming legacy applications and infrastructure to harness cloud-native services, while equipping customers to manage these workloads using contemporary DevOps principles.

AWS Partners with Migration and Modernization solutions are encouraged to explore the opportunity to become an AWS Competency Partner. In addition to benefits from the AWS Specialization Program, AWS Migration and Modernization Competency Partners gain access to MAP funding.
AWS Partners aiming to validate their Migration and Modernization solutions through the AWS Competency Program must be enrolled in the Services Path and be at the AWS Advanced or Premier Tier prior to applying.
