Our AWS customers are leveraging the 6, 9, and 12 TB EC2 High Memory instances introduced last year, constructing numerous SAP solutions on AWS, utilizing the SAP Rapid Migration Test Program, and collaborating with the SAP Competency Partner Network.
What’s New
Customers are increasingly deploying larger SAP configurations using either scale-up (larger instances) or scale-out (additional instances) strategies. We have collaborated with SAP to certify two new scale-out options:
- 48 TB Scale-Out (S/4HANA) – With the launch of EC2 High Memory instances featuring 12 TB of memory last year, these instances are now certified to run OLTP and OLAP HANA workloads in scale-up configurations. You can now deploy up to four of these 12 TB instances for an OLTP S/4HANA solution in scale-out mode, adhering to all SAP requirements. This marks the first SAP-certified scale-out certification of S/4HANA on cloud instances. For more information, refer to the support documentation.
- 100 TB Scale-Out (BW4/HANA, BW on HANA, Datamart) – You can now utilize up to 25 x1e.32xlarge EC2 instances to build an OLAP solution that scales to 100 TB while fulfilling all SAP standards. Starting with just 244 GB of memory, you can expand to 100 TB; please review the certification for further details.
The 48 TB OLTP and 100 TB OLAP solutions represent the largest SAP-certified offerings available from any cloud provider.
We are also pleased to introduce a new S/4HANA Quick Start guide that enables you to set up a VPC spanning two Availability Zones, complete with public and private subnets and a pair of EC2 instances for S/4HANA. For more details, check it out!
What’s Next
Hope you’re still with me! The most exciting news is still to come. We are preparing to expand our EC2 High Memory instance lineup with new configurations featuring 18 TB and 24 TB of memory later in 2023. These instances will utilize second-generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors and will be available in bare metal form. Like the existing EC2 High Memory instances, these will integrate seamlessly within the same Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) hosting your cloud applications, along with essential EC2 features such as Elastic Block Store and advanced networking capabilities. You will be able to launch, manage, and resize these instances using the AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI) and the AWS SDKs.
