At re:Invent 2022, AWS revealed the successful execution of a suite of AWS compute and machine learning (ML) applications aboard an orbiting satellite, marking a pioneering space experiment. Over the last 10 months, this project in low Earth orbit (LEO) aimed to explore a faster and more efficient way for clients to gather and analyze critical space data directly aboard their satellites using the cloud.

The infrastructure of the internet is woven with fiber optic cables, transmitting internet, TV, and telephone data that many of us rely on daily. In a recent two-day event, 33 participants, primarily from Southwest Virginia, took part in the AWS Fiber Optic Fusion Splicing Certificate Course—a complimentary training program that provided lectures and hands-on experience in fiber optic installation and repair. This course took place on November 14-15 at Mountain Ridge Community College (MRCC) in Virginia, in partnership with MRCC and local planning commissions.
