In the United States, numerous 911 centers are still operating on outdated technology that is susceptible to outages during disasters. Furthermore, some facilities are grappling with a staffing shortfall of up to 50%. In addition, courts and public safety organizations are increasingly becoming targets of cyber threats, as the push to digitize paper records escalates the volume of sensitive data needing secure storage. These challenges represent just a fraction of the issues the justice and public safety sectors aim to tackle through innovative tech solutions.
To empower GovTech startups in their mission to develop technologies that enhance government service delivery, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is launching its first AWS GovTech Accelerator. This new program is currently accepting applications from startups eager to utilize cloud resources to speed up innovation. The initial cohort will focus on justice and public safety organizations, including courts, corrections, emergency services, and law enforcement. The goal of the AWS GovTech Accelerator is to foster the creation of technologies that can help boost community engagement, deter crime, and lower recidivism rates.
The AWS GovTech Accelerator features a four-week virtual program, complemented by in-person opportunities for both technical and business mentorship for participating startups.
Applications are open now and will close on Monday, July 10, 2023. Selected startups will be notified by Wednesday, August 9, 2023, and the program will commence with an in-person event in the Fall of 2023.
Startups that are chosen will gain access to a variety of resources aimed at fostering scalable solutions, including:
- Technical guidance tailored to meet public sector requirements
- Mentorship from leaders in justice and public safety as well as technical experts
- Business development coaching
- Go-to-market strategies
- Investment insights
- AWS Promotional Credits
- Potential proof-of-concept projects with justice and public safety entities
- Collaborative opportunities with the AWS Partner Network (APN)
Eligibility for the AWS GovTech Accelerator includes a strong commitment to justice and public safety. Startups must demonstrate an ability to address challenges and deliver data-driven solutions that enhance outcomes in these areas.
Key eligibility criteria include:
- Existing public sector customers and revenue
- Capability to leverage AWS Cloud in solving justice and public safety issues
- Willingness to attend in-person events
- Participation in live coaching and mentoring sessions
Applications will be assessed based on several factors, such as the uniqueness of the solution in addressing justice and public safety challenges, the applicant’s ability to implement an AWS-powered solution, innovative uses of the AWS Cloud, and the overall impact of the solution on government customers.
