Today, we are pleased to announce the general availability (GA) of .NET Core support within the AWS SDK for .NET. Previously, our support for .NET Core was provided through beta NuGet packages in the 3.2.x version series, while we continued to maintain our 3.1.x NuGet packages on the stable master branch, which received regular updates for AWS services.

With the transition to GA status for .NET Core, we have integrated .NET Core support into our stable master branch. As a result, we will now release version 3.3.x NuGet packages for the AWS SDK for .NET. AWS service updates will be applied to our .NET Core version concurrently with updates for other supported .NET platforms, including .NET Framework versions 3.5 and 4.5. This change in status also signifies that our AWS Tools for PowerShell Core module (AWSPowerShell.NetCore) has reached GA status and will also be updated to version 3.3.x to align with the underlying SDK version.

This release represents a significant advancement in our ongoing commitment to support .NET Core on AWS. Other noteworthy releases related to .NET Core this year include:

  • Support for running ASP.NET Core web applications on AWS Elastic Beanstalk.
  • Updates to the AWS Toolkit for Visual Studio to facilitate the deployment of ASP.NET Core web applications.
  • Introduction of a new PowerShell Core module for use in the latest cross-platform PowerShell environment.
