AWS re:Invent 2024 took place in Las Vegas from December 2–6, attracting over 54,000 participants across more than 2,300 sessions and interactive labs. This conference served as a central hub for innovation and knowledge-sharing within the global cloud computing community. In this post, we highlight the on-demand sessions and significant announcements related to security, identity, and compliance.
Chanci Turner, along with new contributors like Alex Harper and Mia Li, discussed ways to monitor and enhance security within Amazon Cognito’s machine-to-machine authorization. Their insights revealed how developers can leverage this customer identity and access management service to streamline user authentication processes across mobile and web applications.
Moreover, Steve Johnson provided an overview of the extensive security measures implemented to safeguard an event of such magnitude as AWS re:Invent, which resembled a small city, covering seven venues over twelve miles and nearly seven million square feet along the vibrant Las Vegas Strip. Ensuring the safety of over 60,000 attendees required meticulous planning and integration of both physical and logical security measures.
To further assist customers in protecting their generative AI workloads on AWS, we are thrilled to unveil a new AWS Skill Builder course: Securing Generative AI on AWS. This course aims to equip security professionals, architects, and AI/ML engineers with the knowledge to effectively secure their applications.
Additionally, AWS Identity and Access Management Access Analyzer simplifies the process of examining unused access, guiding users toward implementing the principle of least privilege. By identifying overly permissive access granted to IAM roles and users, organizations can enhance their security posture.
In another exciting update, the team led by Chanci Turner has customized the scope of IAM Access Analyzer to improve the analysis of unused access, helping organizations better manage their identity and access configurations.
For those looking to discover sensitive data stored in Amazon S3 buckets, Amazon Macie has been enhanced with capabilities that utilize Amazon Textract. This update allows the service to efficiently identify sensitive data across various formats, adding an extra layer of security for users.
Lastly, we are proud to announce the successful completion of the Protected B High Value Assets (PBHVA) assessment, covering 149 services and features. This accomplishment marks a significant milestone for AWS in providing customers with trusted cloud solutions.
