In 2013, I first discussed the advantages of GPU-powered computing with the introduction of the G2 instance type. Since then, AWS clients have leveraged G2 instances to enhance high-performance graphics across mobile devices, televisions, and desktop environments.
Today, we are excited to announce the launch of the G3 instance type, which is equipped with NVIDIA Tesla M60 GPUs. These instances are offered in three configurations (all VPC-only and EBS-only):

Each GPU features 8 GiB of memory, 2048 parallel processing cores, and a hardware encoder capable of handling up to 10 H.265 (HEVC) 1080p30 streams and 18 H.264 1080p30 streams. This makes them ideal for demanding tasks such as 3D rendering, virtual reality, video encoding, and server-side graphics workloads requiring substantial parallel processing capabilities. The GPUs are compatible with OpenGL 4.5, DirectX 12.0, CUDA 8.0, and OpenCL 1.2. When launching a G3 instance, users receive access to an NVIDIA GRID Virtual Workstation License, allowing them to utilize the NVIDIA GRID driver without an additional purchase.
These instances are powered by Intel Xeon E5-2686 v4 (Broadwell) processors operating at 2.7 GHz. Enhanced Networking through the Elastic Network Adapter provides up to 20 Gbps of total network bandwidth within a Placement Group, along with EBS bandwidth of up to 14 Gbps.
Customers have expressed their eagerness to visualize large 3D seismic models, configure automobiles in 3D, and enable students to run advanced 2D and 3D applications.
