In the realm of Amazon Web Services, there has been some confusion regarding the differences between certain offerings. This brief article aims to elucidate two specific services and a related product feature. For detailed information on each service, please visit aws.amazon.com.

Amazon Flexible Payments Service (Amazon FPS)

The Amazon Flexible Payments Service (Amazon FPS) enables developers to process payments on their websites, featuring a variety of innovative capabilities, including support for micropayments.

Amazon DevPay

On the other hand, Amazon DevPay integrates two Amazon Web Services to facilitate a unique model of Software as a Service (SaaS). It allows developers to sell applications built on either Amazon S3 or Amazon EC2. You set the retail price, which consists of a markup over Amazon’s base rate. Customers make payments to Amazon, from which we deduct the base price along with a small commission, subsequently transferring the remaining amount into your Amazon account.

Amazon EC2 Public AMIs

It’s important to note that Amazon EC2 Public AMIs (Amazon Machine Images) are not a standalone service but rather a feature of Amazon EC2, designed with Amazon DevPay in mind. These images are typically pre-configured with your proprietary software, which you wish to monetize through a monthly fee or a markup above Amazon’s base charges. A notable example of a public AMI is the Red Hat RHEL, available for a monthly subscription plus an hourly fee, fully supported by Red Hat, making the virtual version accessible to many of their customers.
