In a recent update, Amazon has enhanced its log management capabilities, particularly for Windows log files. Earlier this year, we introduced a feature within Amazon CloudWatch that allows users to upload log files from Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances. This functionality provides durable storage and enables users to monitor specific symbols or messages effectively.

The EC2Config service, which operates on Windows instances within EC2, performs several vital tasks, including the upload of log files to CloudWatch. As part of our latest enhancements, we are now adding support for Windows Performance Counter data and Event Tracing for Windows (ETW) logs, along with the ability to handle custom log files.

To utilize this new feature, users must enable CloudWatch logs integration. This can be accomplished directly from the instance by running EC2Config and selecting the option to enable CloudWatch logs integration.

The configuration file located at %PROGRAMFILES%AmazonEc2ConfigServiceSettingsAWS.EC2.Windows.CloudWatch.json outlines the files that will be uploaded.
