By carefully selecting Cost Explorer filters, you can create reports that reveal the costs associated with each storage class (including by Region), along with other filters that suit your needs. These detailed reports will enhance visibility into storage expenses, allowing you to optimize resource utilization and address potential spending inefficiencies.

Amazon EFS Storage Report Parameters

The following are the four key parameters used in Amazon EFS storage reports:

  • <Region>-TimedStorage-ByteHrs: Represents the number of GB-hours that data was stored in the EFS Standard storage class.
  • <Region>-IATimedStorage-ByteHrs: Indicates the number of GB-hours that data was stored in the EFS Standard-Infrequent Access storage class.
  • <Region>-TimedStorage-Z-ByteHrs: Indicates the number of GB-hours that data was stored in the EFS One Zone storage class.
  • <Region>-IATimedStorage-Z-ByteHrs: Shows the number of GB-hours that data was stored in the EFS One Zone-Infrequent Access storage class.

In the subsequent sections, I will explain how to utilize these parameters to assess storage usage across all storage classes and then focus on each class individually.

Generating the Amazon EFS Storage Report for All Storage Classes

Begin by setting the Date Range and Granularity according to your requirements. Set the Dimension to Service, and select Elastic File System.

Under Usage Type, filter data using the parameters listed below, ensuring to check the “Select all” box to include the filtered data in your report. After that, click Apply.

  • TimedStorage-ByteHrs
  • IATimedStorage-ByteHrs
  • TimedStorage-Z-ByteHrs
  • IATimedStorage-Z-ByteHrs

For example, if you want to focus on EFS Standard-Infrequent Access storage class usage, you would apply the -IATimedStorage-Z-ByteHrs filter.

This process yields a report showing the costs associated with the data stored in Amazon EFS. If you wish to analyze AWS Region-wise usage, select Usage type under Dimension in the Group by section.

Generating Amazon EFS Storage Reports for Specific Classes

You can repeat similar steps for each storage class, adjusting the parameters accordingly:

  • For EFS Standard storage class, use the -TimedStorage-ByteHrs filter.
  • For EFS Standard-Infrequent Access, utilize the -IATimedStorage-ByteHrs filter.
  • For EFS One Zone, apply the -TimedStorage-Z-ByteHrs filter.
  • For EFS One Zone-Infrequent Access, select the -IATimedStorage-Z-ByteHrs filter.

By following these steps, you can access detailed reports that provide insight into costs and data stored across the various EFS storage classes.
