At Amazon, security remains a paramount concern. We are committed to investing significantly in security and compliance measures to ensure that our cloud computing environment not only meets but exceeds the rigorous standards expected by our diverse clientele. We believe that security is a shared responsibility; while AWS manages and controls everything from the host operating system to the physical security of our facilities, our customers are tasked with building secure applications.

Numerous AWS Partner Network (APN) partners have created innovative security solutions on the AWS platform, enhancing the value offered to AWS customers as they develop secure applications. Today, we want to spotlight Barracuda, an esteemed APN Technology Partner, which has made its security solutions accessible on the AWS platform.

About Barracuda

Established in 2003 and located in Campbell, CA, Barracuda specializes in developing solutions that help clients mitigate security threats, enhance network performance, and safeguard their data. Their offerings include cloud-connected appliances, virtual appliances, and cloud-only solutions. Barracuda’s storage solutions are designed to back up and archive critical business data, ensuring accessibility from anywhere, whether on the network or through mobile devices. Their security solutions protect and optimize the performance of vital components in customers’ IT infrastructures, including email servers, web applications, data centers, and core networks. Barracuda has been an APN partner since 2013, serving over 150,000 customers across 100 countries and various industries.

Drivers to the AWS Cloud

The demands of Barracuda’s customer base, along with their commitment to simplicity, have been instrumental in fostering their relationship with AWS. “We seek to bring simplicity throughout the entire lifecycle for our customers—making it easy to purchase, install, deploy, manage, and use,” noted Sarah Johnson, VP of Partnerships at Barracuda. As they recognized that many customers were transitioning their infrastructure to the AWS Cloud, the need for collaboration with AWS became apparent. “Barracuda has a significant overlap of customers utilizing AWS. This collaboration has become increasingly vital for us, ensuring that we are present where our customers require us,” Johnson explained.

Another crucial factor for Barracuda in working with AWS was the AWS shared responsibility model for security. “A shared philosophy around security was pivotal in our decision to partner with AWS. Under this model, AWS provides a globally secure infrastructure along with compute, storage, networking, and database services, which complement the advanced security features we offer,” continued Johnson.

Barracuda Solutions on AWS

Barracuda provides a range of solutions via the AWS Marketplace and a Bring Your Own License (BYOL) option. Since November 2013, they have launched several solutions on AWS, including:

  • Barracuda Web Application Firewall: This solution delivers robust security features to counteract threats at the application level, enabling customers to confidently migrate applications to the AWS Cloud.
  • Barracuda NG Firewall: Offering next-gen firewall capabilities and high-speed site-to-site remote access, the Barracuda NG Firewall also provides advanced threat detection and secure remote network access to the AWS platform.
  • Barracuda Spam Firewall: This was one of the first dedicated anti-spam solutions in the AWS Marketplace, delivering comprehensive security for organizations transitioning their email infrastructure to AWS.
  • Barracuda Load Balancer ADC: This solution enables secure application runs across public and private cloud infrastructures while optimizing performance through features like caching and compression.
  • Barracuda SignNow: This tool expedites the document approval process, allowing legally binding signatures in seconds from any device, thus streamlining document workflows.

The Benefits of Working with AWS

Johnson emphasizes the efficiency of deploying on AWS, stating, “We swiftly transitioned from a single product to eight diverse offerings, and this number continues to grow.” Collaborating with AWS, particularly through the AWS Marketplace, has provided Barracuda with flexibility in deployment options, showcasing their dedication to providing customers with freedom and choice.

The Barracuda team also anticipates ongoing collaboration with APN Consulting Partners. “We deeply understand customer requirements and deployment scenarios within the AWS Cloud. We are enthusiastic about expanding the Barracuda Partner Program with firms that are developing their businesses around AWS Cloud services,” Johnson added.

Looking Forward

Barracuda intends to strengthen its relationship with AWS and broaden its presence on the AWS platform. “The internal AWS teams have been incredibly supportive throughout every stage—from concept to implementation and customer commitment delivery. This has prompted us to expand our product offerings on AWS and explore new solutions for the platform,” Johnson concluded.
