A growing number of healthcare providers, insurers, and IT professionals are increasingly utilizing AWS’s secure, adaptable, and scalable cloud services for processing and storing personal data. AWS offers a variety of leading-edge tools to assist clients in meeting local regulatory and legislative standards, such as the German Digital Supply Act (DVG) and the accompanying Digital Health Applications Ordinance (DiGAV), as they transition their healthcare operations to the cloud.

As we reflect on a decade of government cloud advancements with AWS GovCloud (US), we note that ten years ago, the federal government was just beginning to explore cloud computing services. In those initial days, there were concerns regarding costs and the security of sensitive government data. Listening to our government clients, we recognized their worries about both cost and security. They needed to stay ahead of demand by innovating and required a highly secure and compliant infrastructure to do so. This led to the launch of AWS GovCloud (US) in 2011.

Furthermore, AWS has acquired Wickr, a company dedicated to offering secure and compliant solutions for organizational communications. Wickr enables security-conscious enterprises and government agencies to implement crucial governance and security measures. Designed with a security-first philosophy, Wickr provides advanced features that surpass traditional communication services.

To facilitate compliance with the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), AWS has introduced the CMMC Customer Responsibility Matrix (CRM). This tool simplifies the process of achieving CMMC compliance by outlining which practices customers can adopt from AWS and clarifying roles and responsibilities within the AWS Compliant Framework for Federal and DoD Workloads in AWS GovCloud (US).

Additionally, it is essential to build a strong foundation of security objectives and practices, including business continuity and disaster recovery plans. This foundation can be tailored to adapt to a dynamic policy environment and support various missions, including those of national computer security incident response teams and operators of essential services.

By leveraging AWS, customers across all 50 states in the US can now securely host criminal justice information (CJI) on the platform. Following years of collaboration with critical application technology providers and Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) officials, AWS has established a straightforward and technically sound approach to CJIS compliance.

In the context of accelerating CMMC compliance, the AWS Compliant Framework has been created as an automated solution to assist clients in swiftly establishing secure and scalable workloads while implementing an initial security baseline that aligns with US federal government standards. This framework specifically addresses the requirements for deploying DoD CMMC and DoD Cloud Computing Security Requirements Guide compliant environments.
