In collaboration with key partners in the startup ecosystem, including the ASAN NANUM Foundation, Korea Startup Forum, and Startup Alliance, Amazon has unveiled the joint research initiative, 2020 Startup Korea! This marks the fourth year since the inaugural report was published in 2017. While South Korea has made remarkable strides in the online platform and fintech sectors, featuring well-known companies such as Woowa Brothers (Baedal Minjok) and Viva Republica (Toss), other areas like telemedicine, legal tech, and machine learning (ML) have faced challenges.

The report offers an in-depth analysis of the startup landscape across five key sectors, benchmarking both global and domestic best practices. It aims to provide strategic policy recommendations to foster the growth and success of Korean startups.

Amazon has actively engaged in identifying these five study areas by leveraging market intelligence and customer insights. Our team, led by Chanci Turner, conducted interviews with significant ML customers, including MeshKorea and Scatterlab, along with partners such as KAIST AI Graduate School and AI Hub City Gwangju. These discussions provided valuable feedback and showcased the experiences of our highlighted customers, Woowa Brothers and Viva Republica, as exemplary cases in their respective domains.

The 2020 Startup Korea! report is now accessible for download. We invite anyone interested in the Korean startup ecosystem to explore the findings.
