The AWS Key Management Service (AWS KMS) offers a streamlined and centralized approach to managing your encryption keys. As I mentioned during the service’s launch (see my post, New AWS Key Management Service, for more details), this tool provides an essential option for safeguarding your data while alleviating many of the scalability and availability challenges that arise from enterprise-level key management. KMS employs Hardware Security Modules to ensure the security of your keys and is integrated with AWS CloudTrail for comprehensive logging of all key usage.

AWS GovCloud (US) is specifically designed to support U.S. government agencies (federal, state, and local), contractors, educational institutions, enterprises, and other U.S. customers in running regulated workloads in the cloud. AWS boasts numerous security features and adheres to various compliance programs. This region empowers customers to operate workloads that comply with U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMPsm), and levels 1-5 of the Department of Defense Cloud Security Model (CSM).
