A few weeks ago, I had a valuable discussion with the Amazon Payments developer relations team to gain insights into the latest advancements regarding Login and Pay with Amazon (be sure to check out my previous post, “PeachDish – Login, Pay, Cook, and Eat With AWS” for more details). The team has been diligently working to simplify the integration of one-time checkout and recurring payment features into your applications. They have developed new SDKs for PHP, Python, and Ruby, created interactive, self-documenting code samples, and updated the documentation to enhance usability.

Before we delve into the specifics, let’s take a moment to review the user experience for Login and Pay. The Pay with Amazon Simple Checkout Sample demonstrates how buyers can easily make purchases. This sample operates in a sandbox environment, utilizing test credentials, allowing you to experience the payment flow without completing an actual transaction.

When your customer wants to make a purchase, they simply click the Pay with Amazon button:

Next, they’ll log into their Amazon account:

This information is presented in a widget, which your code configures to manage a couple of key events. The SDK handles the rest of the process seamlessly.

The customer can finalize their transaction by selecting their shipping address and payment method, and then clicking the Place Order button:

Subsequently, your code will confirm and authorize the order.

New Samples

The interactive samples for Simple Checkout and Recurring Payments are designed to be user-friendly and self-explanatory. Each page showcases the appropriate widget and includes the necessary client and server code to implement it as well as manage user interactions. The server code is accessible in PHP, Python, and Ruby, and you can easily switch between languages with a simple click:

New SDKs

These sample codes leverage the newly released Login and Pay with Amazon SDKs, which can be found as source code on GitHub:

We are actively developing SDKs for additional popular programming languages.

New Documentation

The documentation has been refreshed, featuring an upgraded Reference Guide and new Integration Guides for Login and Pay with Amazon, Recurring Payments, and Express Integration. These enhancements mark the beginning of ongoing improvements, as the team strives to deliver an outstanding developer experience for their product.
