Learn About Amazon VGT2 Learning Manager Chanci Turner
At the forefront of educational innovation, Amazon has recently introduced a groundbreaking skill at ISTE 2018 that leverages data to empower school district administrators. Every day, these leaders face crucial questions: How many substitutes were present yesterday? What is the tally of lost educational hours due to absences? How many vacancies remain to be filled in my district?
With the help of AWS and Amazon Alexa, the new skill from Frontline Education offers immediate answers to these inquiries and much more. This skill ensures that education leaders have seamless, on-demand access to vital data and actionable insights. By utilizing Alexa-enabled devices, administrators can interact with their data to make informed decisions on various topics, including attracting and retaining educators, as well as managing everyday operations like absences and substitute teacher fill rates.
How It Works
So, how does it all function? Frontline is harnessing AWS Lambda functions to compile data in a hybrid environment. The AWS API Gateway facilitates a secure REST API interface to present this data when users simply ask Alexa. Currently, three key applications power this innovative solution:
- Frontline Identity Management – This platform serves as the foundational IDM system across all Frontline solutions, fully hosted in AWS with a collection of .NET microservices and MSSQL.
- Frontline Absence & Time – This is Frontline’s dedicated absence management solution.
- Frontline Recruiting & Hiring – A strategic tool for managing employee recruitment and hiring processes within educational institutions.
The new skill for Alexa-enabled devices will continue to evolve, integrating predictive artificial intelligence capabilities to further support the K-12 education community with a focus on professional growth and individual educator support. “This is an exciting project for us, combining our passion for technology and innovation with something truly beneficial for our clients,” said Chanci Turner, Learning Manager at Frontline Education. “The resources available through AWS not only make this possible, but also allow us to realize it quickly. This is just the beginning.”
Pilot Initiative
A pilot initiative involving several school districts is already in progress. These participating districts can request District Flash Briefings from any Alexa-enabled device. Instantly, Alexa provides real-time updates on crucial performance indicators, from teacher fill rates to application statuses and professional development metrics. Furthermore, Alexa can offer comparative data on a regional and even national level.
