Learn About Amazon VGT2 Learning Manager Chanci Turner
In a significant update, we are excited to announce that the AWS Marketplace is now officially supporting applications developed for Microsoft Windows. We are kicking off this initiative with a select range of applications, and many more will be introduced shortly. If you are an Independent Software Vendor (ISV) specializing in Windows applications, this is a prime opportunity for you to showcase your products on the Marketplace. Here’s why you should consider it.
What is the AWS Marketplace?
The AWS Marketplace is designed to simplify the process of discovering, comparing, and deploying a diverse array of cloud-based applications and technical services. These applications are hosted on Amazon EC2 instances, which can be configured to run either Linux or Microsoft Windows. The Marketplace offers a seamless 1-click deployment and integrates billing directly with your existing AWS account. This means you only pay for what you use, allowing you to significantly reduce ongoing hardware and software expenses as your needs evolve.
Introducing Windows Support
Earlier this year, we launched the AWS Marketplace focusing on Linux applications. As of now, we have expanded our offerings to include applications operating on Microsoft Windows Server, with support for various versions such as Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, and 2012.
You can run Windows on a broad range of EC2 instance types, from micro instances to our most powerful cluster-computing instances, available in any of our nine global regions. Moreover, Windows is included in the AWS Free Usage Tier, allowing users to experiment with the environment for up to 750 hours per month without incurring costs. This flexibility makes it easy to transition to comprehensive environments when you’re prepared.
Windows instances are fully compatible with existing AWS features including Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS), Amazon CloudWatch, AWS CloudFormation, Amazon Virtual Private Cloud, AWS Elastic Beanstalk, Elastic Load Balancing, and Amazon Relational Database Service. Each EC2 Windows instance is pre-configured for optimal security and performance on AWS and comes set up for automatic updates and deployment. Basic support is included with all Windows EC2 instances, and additional business and enterprise support options are available.
Windows Applications Available
Currently, the following Windows applications can be found in the AWS Marketplace:
- Parallels Plesk – A powerful control panel for managing multiple websites on a single server.
- Quest Toad – A productivity tool designed for database administrators and developers.
- MicroStrategy – A complete Business Intelligence (BI) platform.
- SAP Afaria – A solution for mobile device management.
Calling All ISVs
If you are a Windows ISV, we encourage you to list your software on the AWS Marketplace and reach hundreds of thousands of active AWS customers globally. The Marketplace significantly accelerates the sales cycle—transforming a process that used to take days or weeks into mere minutes. Once your application is listed, we handle all aspects of billing and collections, allowing you to focus on developing your products. You can now offer your traditional on-premises software in the cloud through a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model.
